After his organ studies with Chris Dubois, Bart Naessens graduated as Master in Music at the Lemmens Institute – Leuven with Luc Ponet. In September 2005 he obtained the highest distinction when he performed his exam in Paris after having dedicated himself to French symphonic organ music for two years. In 2007 he graduated for harpsichord after a five years' study with Kris Verhelst. With Edmond Saveniers he is currently studying orchestra conducting.
He took part in several master classes with Ben van Oosten, Ludger Lohmann, Louis Robillard, Leo Van Doeselaar, Menno Van Delft, Trevor Pinnock, …
Stimulated by Erik Van Nevel, and as a member of Currende, he focused more on ‘early music’ and the practice of performing this kind of music. He became a much - sought accompanist and performs both as a soloist as well as in chamber music throughout the world. He worked with prominent musicians and ensembles such as Currende, Il Gardellino, Collegium Instrumentale Brugense, choir and orchestra of “La Monnaie”, Flemish Radio Choir and Orchestra, The am’rous flute, the Beethovenacademie, and Muziektheater Transparant.
Since 1999 Bart has been organist at the St-Gillis church in Bruges. He teaches organ and harpsichord at the academies in Blankenberge and at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. As a composer he wrote and arranged music for choir and orchestra.
Lately Bart has been focusing more on conducting and is frequently engaged as guest conductor. He is the principal conductor of choir Vagantes Morborum (Bruges) and the Royal Oratorio Society (Gent) with whom he appeared in prestigious projects like Paulus and Elias (F. Mendelssohn), Bach's Weihnachtsoratorio and St- Matthew Passion, Die Jahreszeiten (J. Haydn) and the 9th Symphony of Beethoven,…
